Total Restoration In Progress:
The initial step in this restoration involved a rough closing of the rips and tears.  As you can see from the photographs, all tears and rips were closed in preparation for lining the canvas.  Areas with missing canvas were roughly filled with small canvas pieces that have been trimmed from the edges.  An example of this can be seen in the upper left of the whole picture view where the actual canvas loss has been filled with a canvas piece.  All rips and tears were eventually filled, blended and in-painted to match the surrounding areas.
